Fleamarket News.... Braderie de Lille

Every first weekend in September, ever increasing numbers of people come to enjoy this great annual rendezvous of flea market fanaticism, bric a brac hunting, bargaining, and amateur salesmanship. The Braderie: a 48 hour festival of brocanteurs all around the city of Lille.

The history of the Braderie of Lille is not well known. It is supposed – though no documentary evidence exists - that the tradition dates from the Middle Ages, when once a year the servant classes of Lille were given permission to sell – from dusk to dawn – old clothes and objects belonging to their employers. Over the years the Braderie has changed, becoming much larger and lasting longer. But the overall free spirit of this September celebration remains.

For two days and two nights a carnival atmosphere reigns, where everyone does as they please. Would-be merchants, casual and professional dealers mingle the length of several kilometres of stalls of second hand goods, all of which, after much hard bargaining, will find a happy new owner.
The Braderie ends on Sunday at midnight, whence the massive cleaning operation begins. Rubbish collectors gradually replace the exhausted bargain hunters, some of whom, torch in hand, still search for hidden treasure on the remaining stalls. Meanwhile, in the enormous crowd, revellers amuse themselves amidst the smells of spicy merguez sausages, mussels and chips, and bathe in all types of music until the small hours of the morning.

More about it, when i'm back...hopefully with a suitcase filled of french goodies (:o)

Travel - Smashbook

I'm going to Belgium and France, next week. So i need a smashbook.
I made one on my own, with an amazon bookpackaging and was inspired by Melissa Samuels. She shows in one of her ustreams, how to make it. You can find it, when you go to her blog (Link in my sidebar). Look in her archiv. It was in march 2011, i think. I can't view it anymore, because i moved in april and my internet is to slow now.
Here you see what i made:

The packaging

Gesso on both sides

Various stamps with archival

Some Backround - stamps

Also adhered 7 Gypsie Tissue Paper with matt medium

The back

Inside i used a Tim Holtz Ringbinder

ATC Sleeves with prepared emphemera

A city map from Lille

Really easy and simple.....just a smashbook. Maybe it gives you an idea and you make one on your own. Let me know, if you did.
This Smashbook fit's the challenge Simon Says Stamp And Show Some Travel

Thanks for watching, dear bloggers. I always appreciate your comments.

Happy Monday

Twilight - Mini - Book Part #3

This is the last page of Twilight. Next i'm showing my pages of New Moon.

You can watch the first Teaser / Trailer of Breaking Dawn Part 1 now.

Thanks for watching

Altered Dominoes

I had a first play with dominos....not so easy...because they are so tiny....

They are original i first gave them a coat of gesso and after drying, a layer of Lumiere turcoise paint.
I stamped my image on tissue with archival and sprayed the tissue with homemade glimmer mist.
Adhered the tissue to the domino with multi medium. Used embossing powder in gold for the edges. Finished with glossy accent. The little embellishments are real watchparts

I have still a box full of more to play and to exercise with little things..

First Edition

This book was originally published in 1987 and for many years was sought after by collectors all over the world. Now it has recently been republished....... but i just had the luck, to get my hands on the first edition, for less money via ebay.

This book is an interpretation of the world of Parisian art through the eyes of Coco Chanel. In 1987 Jean Leymarie created a book that followed the life of Coco Chanel, her work and her links to the art world. The book features photos of Coco Chanel, Cocteau, Modigliani, Matisse, Renoir, Iribe, Doisneau....
In the early 20 th century, Coco Chanel was introduced to Parisian avant - garde art by Jose - Mari Sert. Leymare investigated Coco's relationship with the artists, her friendship with Picasso and Dali, and how they influenced her design.

I am thrilled, that i own this book now.

Thanks for watching, as always (:o)
